Job summary

Housing Works is seeking an experienced Substance Use Counselor (CASAC and/or LMSW) to provide on-site, trauma-informed services to justice-involved individuals transitioning from incarceration to the community. The role emphasizes integrated substance use and mental health treatment, with focus on re-entry stabilization and continuity of care.

Qualifications

• CASAC certification and/or LMSW required.
• LMSW must have NYS licensure or permit from NYSED.
• Minimum of an Associate’s degree.
• At least one year of experience in substance use counseling; co-occurring disorders preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual counseling focused on substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions using trauma-responsive, culturally sensitive approaches.
• Lead psychoeducational groups on substance use, mental health symptoms, relapse prevention, and re-entry challenges.
• Perform comprehensive bio-psychosocial assessments and risk evaluations for re-entry.
• Deliver crisis intervention and coordinate with an interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care.
