Job summary

Children's Home Society of South Dakota is seeking a Special Education Classroom Teacher in Aberdeen to deliver individualized instruction within a trauma-responsive, structured classroom. You will manage IEPs, collaborate with families and schools, and monitor student growth to support academic, social, and behavioral development.

The role emphasizes equity, inclusion, and multidisciplinary teamwork, with a 7:30am-3:30pm schedule, year-round school operations, and a signing bonus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education or Elementary Education required.
• Current, valid South Dakota teaching certificate with a Special Education endorsement appropriate to the grade levels and student served required.
• Experience working with children with emotional, behavioral, developmental or mental health needs preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver standards-aligned instruction using agency curriculum and supplemental resources appropriate to students' needs.
• Case manage IEPs for assigned students in collaboration with the Special Education Services Administrator.
• Establish and maintain a structured, trauma-responsive classroom environment.
• Prepare instructional materials and manage classroom routines for timely instruction.
• Monitor and document student progress and communicate with families and teams.
• Collaborate with school staff, families, and related service providers to support student programming.
• Demonstrate professionalism and participate in ongoing professional development.
