Job summary

Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living (IAC) seeks a compassionate Shelter Advocate to provide trauma-informed support and advocacy for individuals and families affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. You will deliver crisis intervention, advocacy, and case coordination while preserving client confidentiality under Alaska law.

You will monitor the shelter, coordinate safety checks, and support 24-hour operations.

Qualifications

• Education or experience in human services, social work, psychology, or related field.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills are essential.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and demonstrate cultural humility.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the facility and conduct room and safety checks.
• Facilitate resident house meetings and address maintenance concerns.
• Resolve housing-related issues through conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques; keep shelter clean, organized, and comfortable for residents.
• Provide court accompaniment and facilitate educational and support groups; advocate for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking at hospitals when requested by law enforcement or forensic staff.
• Collaborate with community partners to coordinate comprehensive services meeting each client’s needs.
