Job summary

KDOH Portsmouth Hospital Corporation in Portsmouth, Ohio seeks a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) to provide trauma-informed, patient-centered care in the ED. You will perform medical-forensic assessments, collect evidence, document findings, and coordinate with law enforcement and advocates.

Requires an Associate’s Degree in Nursing, current Kentucky RN license or multi-state privileges, BLS, and SANE certification.

Qualifications

• Current Kentucky RN license or multi-state privileges (NLC)
• American Heart Association BLS certification
• Maintains SANE certification
• Individual or employment-based malpractice insurance

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, trauma-informed care to sexual assault survivors.
• Conduct medical-forensic examinations per Kentucky and federal protocols.
• Collect, preserve, and document forensic evidence with chain of custody.
• Perform detailed physical assessments and forensic photography as indicated.
• Administer medications per protocol (e.g., STI prophylaxis, emergency contraception).
• Coordinate care with ED providers, advocates, social workers, law enforcement, and prosecutors.
