Job summary

Preferred Behavioral Health Group in Secaucus, NJ is hiring a Peer Recovery Support Specialist. This role uses lived experience to support individuals with substance use disorders, offering outreach, advocacy and linkage to community supports.

The PRSS helps families engage, develop recovery plans with measurable goals, and connect with treatment services. Strong communication and collaboration with staff are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Communication skills: written and verbal.
• Basic computer skills.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Must be 21 years of age.
• Knowledge of addictions preferred.
• At least 2 continuous years of sustained recovery or 2 years as a family member affected by substance use.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.

Responsibilities

• Maintains relationships with parent/caregiver and families to assist individuals in treatment engagement and retention.
• Reinforces that recovery is possible using strengths and resources of each individual.
• Provides outreach and engagement, in-office and out-of-office, coordinating with staff.
• Enhances identification and participation in the recovery community.
• Empowers families to make self-determined recovery choices and follow a Recovery Plan.
• Attend Family Team Meetings and related consultations and agency meetings.
