Job summary

Johnston County DSS is seeking a full-time Licensed Clinical Social Worker to provide brief outpatient, trauma-focused therapy to children, youth, and families engaged with the Department of Social Services.

The role involves clinical assessments, treatment planning, and collaboration with court staff, Guardian ad Litem, and school personnel. A NC LCSW license is required; experience with CPS/foster care is preferred.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in social work from an accredited institution.
• Two years of supervised social work experience as required by the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board.
• Active North Carolina Licensure as an LCSW.
• Trauma-focused therapy training preferred.
• Experience with CPS/Foster Care is highly preferable.

Responsibilities

• Direct, coordinate, and deliver evidence-based, trauma-informed outpatient therapy to children, youth up to 21, and adult caregivers.
• Conduct thorough clinical assessments and diagnose mental health or substance use disorders.
• Prepare comprehensive clinical assessments for children in DSS custody to determine needs and treatment protocols.
• Utilize TF-CBT, SPARCS, PCIT, mindfulness, and play therapy approaches.
• Collaborate with child welfare, court staff, GALs, law enforcement, and school officials.
• Support placement stability and connect families to community resources and psychoeducation on trauma.
• Provide services to adults and youths facing complex family dynamics including abuse and neglect.
• Participate in CFTs, IEPs, and multidisciplinary meetings; document progress and maintain charts.
• Provide agency staff training on trauma, stress, and trauma-related interventions.
