Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in physical education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Education, or a related field.
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with a Physical Education endorsement, or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Knowledge of instructional planning, student assessment, classroom management, and physical-activity safety.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position and provide active student supervision.
  • Successful completion of required background checks and employment clearances.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement standards-aligned physical education lessons for grades K–12.
  • Teach fitness, movement, team sports, health awareness, cooperation, and lifelong wellness.
  • Modify activities and equipment based on students’ abilities and safety needs.
  • Establish routines and maintain a safe, respectful learning environment.
  • Use trauma-informed strategies to encourage participation and reduce frustration.
  • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and self-regulation.
  • Monitor students and respond to unsafe or escalating behavior.
  • Maintain records of participation and progress for IEP meetings.
  • Collaborate with special education staff, social workers, clinicians, and administrators.
  • Follow school policies on supervision, safety, confidentiality, and reporting.
  • Inspect equipment and report safety concerns.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development.
