Job summary

The Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO) is seeking a Housing Advocate to support guests at Champlain Place Emergency Shelter in Burlington, Vermont. This role focuses on client-centered, trauma-informed assistance to access housing and essential benefits, with referrals to employment, healthcare, and social services.

Overnight shifts run from 12:00am to 8:00am. The position requires a Bachelor’s in social/human services or equivalent experience, strong communication, a valid

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in social or human services or equivalent experience.
• In-depth knowledge of homelessness, affordable housing, poverty and economic justice.
• Direct advocacy experience for individuals facing housing insecurity.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, data entry, and clear verbal/written communication.
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel within the service area.

Responsibilities

• Provide client-centered, trauma-informed support to shelter guests.
• Assist clients to access safe, sustainable housing and benefits.
• Refer clients to employment, medical, mental health, and substance use services.
• Collaborate with community partners to remove barriers to housing.
• Address barriers to housing through coordination with agencies.
