The Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO) is seeking a Housing Advocate to support guests at Champlain Place Emergency Shelter in Burlington, Vermont. This role focuses on client-centered, trauma-informed assistance to access housing and essential benefits, with referrals to employment, healthcare, and social services.

Overnight shifts run from 12:00am to 8:00am. The position requires a Bachelor’s in social/human services or equivalent experience, strong communication, a valid

Qualifications

• In-depth knowledge of homelessness, affordable housing, poverty and economic justice.
• Direct advocacy experience for individuals facing housing insecurity.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, data entry, and clear verbal/written communication.
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel within the service area.

Responsibilities

The Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO) has exciting opportunities for you to make a meaningful impact in our community by joining our team to provide housing advocacy services at the Champlain Place Emergency Shelter in Burlington, Vermont. CVOEO's Champlain Place is a 24/7 low-barrier shelter for up to 40 individuals experiencing homelessness.

Our Housing Advocate will provide a client-centered, trauma-informed support for emergency housing guests and others experiencing homelessness with the ultimate goal of empowering individuals to access safe, sustainable housing. Our Housing Advocates work with clients to secure housing and access essential benefits, and refer people to employment, medical, mental health and substance use disorder services and will work with an array of community partners to help clients access options for housing and social services. Addressing barriers to housing and working with our partner agencies to address those barriers is a crucial aspect of this role.

Overnight shifts are from 12:00am - 8:00am.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in social or human services or combination of education and experience from which comparable skills and knowledge are acquired. In-depth knowledge of the causes and effects of homelessness, affordable housing, poverty, economic justice and multiple oppressions affecting economically vulnerable groups and direct experience in advocacy and service provision to individuals affected by housing and economic insecurities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, computer, and data entry skills and effective verbal and written communication skills are required (bilingual skills a plus!). Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record and access to reliable transportation and willingness and ability to travel within the CVOEO service area.
