Job summary

The Spokane Tribe of Indians Head Start program seeks a Health & Disabilities Coordinator. This regular, full-time, non-exempt position supports health and disability services, ensuring compliance with performance standards and tribal/state regulations.

Duties include health screenings, nutrition assessments, data entry in Child Plus, and coordinating referrals for children with special needs. Qualifications include a health/public health background, strong communication, confidentiality, and

Qualifications

  • Training in public health, nursing, health education, maternal and child health, or health administration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both children and adults.
  • Ability to manage the agency to serve children with disabilities and coordinate with staff and families.
  • Criminal history and background clearance without findings of abuse or neglect.
  • Familiarity with Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Understanding of early childhood development and preschool practices.
  • Able to contribute positively and reliably to the Head Start team.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure operations comply with Head Start Performance Standards, tribal/state/federal regulations.
  • Coordinate health exams within 90 days of enrollment.
  • Conduct health assessments, nutrition and growth reviews, and education.
  • Organize a health advisory committee with program director support.
  • Develop and implement health education curricula (health,dental,safety).
  • Perform daily health checks and immunization reviews; refer as needed.
  • Conduct screenings, create Health Alerts, and plan emergency care.
  • Facilitate health-related home visits and promote parental involvement.
  • Monitor safety checklists, drills, and playground safety inspections.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide basic first aid; communicate with families.
  • Document health data in Child Plus and ensure accurate reporting.
  • Advocate for children with special needs and coordinate referrals.
