Job summary

Safe Horizon’s Child Advocacy Center serves as a front-line responder to child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse, coordinating investigations while ensuring immediate, effective support for victims in New York.

The Program Assistant is the first point of contact for all children and families entering the CAC, welcomes and orients them, and links the family to CAC service providers. This role helps create a safe, welcoming environment aligned with CAC values.

Qualifications

• High school equivalency or diploma preferred.
• Basic computer skills including data entry, internet use, and email.
• Experience in fast-paced environments such as human services or customer service is a plus.
• Motivation to engage with children and families affected by violence and trauma.

Responsibilities

• Learn and integrate trauma-informed, client-centered approaches.
• Welcome all visitors and orient them to the site/space.
• Actively manage the experience of clients, visitors, partners and staff.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to respond to clients quickly.
• Manage reception and play areas to be safe and child-focused.
• Engage children in age-appropriate activities while they wait for services.
• Provide support to caregivers and children while waiting for services.
• Answer and direct calls, faxes, and mail directed to the department or site.
• Enter data into CMS and assist with report preparation.
• Assist Administrative Coordinator in supervising reception area volunteers.
• Keep playrooms and rooms organized at the end of the day.
• Perform other program-related duties as necessary.
