Job summary

Crossnore Communities for Children seeks an Exceptional Children's (EC) Substitute Teacher for Anderson Academy Charter School in Winston-Salem, NC. This on-site role runs Sept 7–Nov 11, 2026, Monday–Friday, 7:30am–3:30pm, with a focus on stability in the absence of the EC teacher.

You’ll follow lesson plans, support diverse learners, and collaborate with staff while upholding trauma-informed, equity-centered practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 3+ years experience teaching students with disabilities.
  • Valid teaching license issued by the NC DPI in at least one area of disability.
  • Experience in EC services roles is preferred.
  • Experience with diverse populations; students with special educational needs.
  • Experience developing curriculum and adapting to flexible educational settings.

Responsibilities

  • Follow lesson plans left by EC teacher and deliver content clearly and engagingly.
  • Create an inclusive classroom culture supporting social and emotional learning.
  • Communicate with students, parents (as needed), and staff to support student achievement.
  • Maintain classroom discipline and safety while encouraging student participation.
  • Support students with IEPs and 504 plans.
  • Complete attendance and classroom notes.
  • Leave detailed feedback and tidy the room for the returning teacher.
  • Collaborate with staff and support hall duties or activities as needed.
  • Uphold school policies, equity principles, and trauma-informed practices.
