Job summary

Montana State University is seeking applications for one full-time Civil Rights Investigator within Campus Civil Rights to conduct investigations into complaints of protected class discrimination and harassment, including sexual misconduct, and to produce factual, unbiased reports of findings.

The successful candidate will apply trauma-informed interviewing, coordinate interim measures, and engage with campus partners to ensure prompt and impartial resolutions while complying with FERPA, Clery

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience writing, analyzing, and presenting data clearly and supportably.
  • Experience managing a high-volume caseload with deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong interview skills with trauma-informed techniques.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Maxient and Filevine preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Document intake of initial reports of protected class discrimination and harassment.
  • Analyze reports to determine jurisdiction in coordination with the Title IX Coordinator.
  • Plan and execute prompt, thorough investigations with impartial processes.
  • Conduct interviews using trauma-informed techniques and gather evidence.
  • Develop and implement informal resolution options.
  • Draft detailed factual reports with analyses of all evidence.
  • Serve as an unbiased decision-maker for non-Title IX cases when required.
  • Maintain prompt and clear communication with participants.
  • Coordinate with campus offices for inter-unit education, training, and outreach.
  • Ensure compliance with FERPA, Clery Act, VAWA, and related laws.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to complete investigations.
  • Prepare for and participate in training on best practices and evolving standards.
