Job summary

Capitol Academy & Capitol Elementary in Sacramento, CA is seeking a Transporter/Teacher Assistant to support students with special needs both in the classroom and during transportation. You will help ensure safe arrivals, active participation in activities, and a positive learning environment throughout the day.

The role blends transportation duties with classroom assistance to support academic and behavioral growth.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required.
• Experience with children in educational/childcare/youth programs preferred.
• Must pass fingerprint clearance and TB test.
• CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).

Responsibilities

• Safely transport students to and from school, appointments, or approved activities.
• Assist teachers with classroom instruction, learning activities, and student engagement.
• Support students with academic tasks, behavior management, and social-emotional development.
• Help supervise students during classroom transitions, recess, lunch, and other school activities.
• Prepare classroom materials, organize learning spaces, and assist with daily classroom operations.
• Communicate effectively with teachers and staff regarding student needs, transportation concerns, and daily observations.
• Maintain accurate transportation logs and report incidents, concerns, or maintenance issues promptly.

Location: Sacramento, CA

Compensation

$22.50-$26.00 per hour (based on experience and certifications)

Full-Time - 205-day work year

Monday-Friday schedule (no evenings, weekends, or holidays)

About the Role

Capitol Academy and Capitol Elementary are seeking motivated Transporter / Teacher Assistant who are passionate about supporting students with special needs both in the classroom and throughout the community. The Transporter / Teacher Assistant plays a dual role in supporting students throughout the school day by providing safe and reliable transportation while also assisting classroom staff in creating a positive, engaging and supportive learning environment.This position helps ensure students arrive safely, participate successfully in classroom activities, and receive the supervision and support needed to thrive.
