Job summary

Southeast Georgia Health System is seeking a Transporter to safely move patients, oxygen, meds and specimens within our network. The role emphasizes patient privacy, equipment maintenance and coordination with SPD for cleaning and disinfection.

You will assist with patient movement, manage oxygen inventories, respond to transport requests, and support related logistical tasks across the health system. CPR certification and a high school diploma are required.

As a Transporter, you will be responsible for the safe and appropriate transportation of patients, oxygen, meds, and specimens as needed. You will coordinates the cleaning and disinfecting of all transportation equipment with SPD based on the protocols designed by SPD. You will store and maintain an inventory of transportation equipment. You will develop and maintain positive relationships with our patients, guests, other team members, and medical staff by striving for excellence in service and quality. You will be responsible for:

  • Transporting patients safely utilizing the proper transportation device according to age and/or physical condition. Transporting patients in a safe manner by making sure patients hands, feet and/or patient care equipment are properly secured. Connecting patients to portable oxygen supply for transport while making sure oxygen supply is sufficient for duration of transport. Monitoring oxygen tanks to assure adequate supply for patient transport.
  • Assisting with patient movement from the transport vehicle
  • Responding to transport requests in a timely manner. Communicating through the clinical information system.
  • Maintaining proper inventory and stock of oxygen tanks throughout designated departments
  • Demonstrating preventive maintenance requirements of transportation devices.
  • Obtaining and maintaining confidentiality of patient medical record during transport, providing patient privacy during transport, as appropriate. Maintains a courteous and cordial attitude with all patients and abstains from any inappropriate behavior or communication in the presence of patients and visitors.
  • Assisting with the pickup, delivery and distribution of materials, supplies, reports, specimens, stock, mail and paychecks throughout the entire Health System. Delivers/picks up vehicles for service and fuel for Health System vehicles as required.
  • Assisting with Valet services which include handling money, counting money, valeting and parking customer vehicles, and assist customers with various needs.

What you will need:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Georgia drivers license with no violations within a minimum of three years from date of hire or transfer.
  • American Heart CPR certification required.
