Job summary

AdventHealth in Florida is seeking a patient transporter for full-time night shifts. You will move equipment, assist with patient transfers, and communicate with patients and staff to ensure safe, timely care.

A focus on safety, accuracy, and courteous service is essential. Responsibilities include transporting patients and supplies, documenting transportation details, and maintaining clear pathways throughout the facility.

Qualifications

  • Must have 1+ year of public contact in a medical setting.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification is required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Driver's License preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Move unused equipment to designated storage areas to keep hallways clear.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families and healthcare staff.
  • Assist in safe transfers of patients using stretchers, wheelchairs, beds and cribs.
  • Transport patient-related items and documents efficiently and accurately.
  • Record transport details in the Transportation system and report needed information.

Job Description

Maintains clear hallways by moving unused equipment to designated storage areas. Communicates effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff. Ensures the proper handling and delivery of medical equipment and supplies. Participates in ongoing training and development to enhance skills and knowledge. Other duties as assigned. Assists in the safe transfers of patients from bed to stretcher or wheelchair. Facilitates the safe, efficient, and expedited movement of patients using stretchers, wheelchairs, beds, and cribs. Transports patient-related items such as belongings, paperwork, labs, and equipment efficiently. Accurately records transport details and reports necessary information using the Transportation system.

  • Communication Skills: Able to communicate in English using good diction, and respond to peoples needs in a pleasant and courteous manner as perceived by the customer, and as appropriate to infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to operate stretchers, beds, and wheelchairs.
  • Must be proficient in the English language and able to read, write, and follow oral instructions.
  • Effective verbal and listening communication skills.

  • Ability to navigate to/from various locations throughout the facility.
  • Problem solver that can think quickly in cases of emergencies or unusual situations.

  • Physical ability to withstand frequent to prolonged walking, standing, pushing, pulling, and transferring patients.
  • Must be able to use a computer for patient information and basic department clerical functions.

  • Ability to quickly learn and follow departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with peers, coworkers, clinicians, and other departments in meeting patient care standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all staff, patients, and physicians to ensure quality service and avoid delays in patient care.
  • Ability to proficiently perform all care activities safely and in accordance with standards of care.
  • Ability to follow patient identification/verification process prior to transporting all patients.
Education
  • High School Grad or Equiv [Preferred]
