The Maine Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Worker to join the Augusta-based Sign Shop Maintenance and Operations Crew. Duties include using hand tools, ladders, bucket truck and crane to install signs, and performing related maintenance across the state.
Winter duties involve snow plowing and emergency response; applicants must be 18+, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be able to obtain state licenses; a preference for construction/maintenance experience.
Department of Transportation Salary: New employees will start at $22.33 per hour (Step 4) *This includes a 20% stipend.

This is a Transportation Worker position. This Position will serve on an Augusta based Sign Shop Maintenance and Operations Crew. Responsibilities involve Statewide travel and occasional overnight stay-away and overtime, the use and preventative maintenance of hand power tools and related heavy equipment to perform assigned duties. Perform all aspects of the work being done by the interstate sign crew from climbing ladders, using the bucket truck and crane, installing signs. Work with the sign shop on layout and production of minor signs. In winter, the responsibilities of this position will align with Transportation Worker duties and will include plowing snow and responding to emergencies typical to MaineDOT's normal operations. Winter work also includes the use and preventative maintenance of hand power tools and related heavy equipment to perform assigned duties and may require long hours of work. The incumbent must be able to be reached by landline/cell phone during off-duty hours in case of emergency or unscheduled work. Work is performed under direct supervision. Preference will be given to applicants with construction and maintenance experience.
