The State of West Virginia seeks a Transportation Worker 2 to operate highway maintenance equipment and perform skilled work on highways, bridges, and related structures. The role reports to the Pocahontas County Headquarters and requires a Class A or B CDL.

Disclaimer-this position will be considered classified-exempt and “at will.” The Transportation Worker 2 Equipment Operator will report to the Pocahontas County Headquarters. This position performs full-performance level skilled work in the construction and maintenance of highways, bridges, and related buildings and structures. Position will be assigned in the following area of assignment: Equipment Operator. Operates motorized highway maintenance equipment such as skid steer, utility tractor, aerial bucket truck, front-end loader, tandem-axle truck, and snowplow. Makes major repairs to highways, culverts, bridge structures. Installs and removes signposts; erects traffic control signs and barricades on construction and maintenance projects. Builds forms and finishes concrete. Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work at the full performance level in the mechanical or building trades in connection with the maintenance and repair of state facilities and buildings. Performs related work as required.
The selected applicant will be placed in a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program. Progression through the apprenticeship program is dependent upon hours completed, proficiency in work, training completed, as well as maintaining and/or obtaining a class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
In the area of assignment of Equipment Operator, a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required.
No formal education required.
Equipment Operator: A valid class A or class B Commercial Driver’s License is required. No Substitutions for Equipment Operator CDL requirement.
