Transportation Technician Trainee - Dunn, NC

Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC (ICE) is a full-service transportation design and consulting firm specializing in civil and transportation engineering services. Responsibilities

  • Responsible for monitoring and inspecting highway construction to ensure compliance with safety, plans, specifications, and other contract requirements.
  • Perform engineering inspections activities such as construction observation of concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregate, and masonry mortar/grout construction for compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, NCDOT, and/or project specifications.
  • Conduct and record daily construction record-keeping as well as perform traffic and erosion control inspections as applicable. Interact and communicate effectively with colleagues and client representatives.
  • Sample and test construction materials to ensure they meet quality requirements of the project specifications.
  • Verify calibration of field and laboratory equipment to industry codes and standards.
  • Prepare sample information for submittal to our ASHTO Accredited Lab.

Qualifications

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Fleet drivers must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
  • Must complete a pre-employment screening; ICE is a drug-free workplace.
  • Must have math calculation skills and MS Office experience.
  • Strong written and communication skills required.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Associates or BS in Civil Engineering desired.
  • Experience with testing/inspections of soil, concrete and/or asphalt materials preferred.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

The role involves moderate physical activity such as walking, standing, bending, and climbing stairs or ladders. Employees may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds. It is essential for employees to navigate construction sites skillfully and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures. Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects, and proficiency in recognizing sound, tone, and pitch. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow, as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods. Employees must be capable of working in varied environmental conditions, including hot, cold, and noisy settings, and be able to stand and walk during site visits. Additionally, working on construction projects may involve night work and weekend work depending on the project scope and may include working in conditions with active traffic.

Expected Hours of Work: The ICE offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing an unpaid hour for lunch daily. Work schedules may vary according to the project schedule.
