Our Construction Management Team is seeking a Transportation Technician IV to serve as a lead inspector responsible for supervising transportation construction projects in North Carolina. This position is not eligible for employer sponsorship, except for TN visa classification. Multiple locations within North Carolina are available, and specific sites can be discussed during the interview process.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Inspect contractor operations on transportation projects, including roadway and bridge construction, to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
• Supervise and support subordinate inspection staff throughout the project.
• Measure and document quantities of pay items.
• Maintain records such as material certifications, testing reports, and daily diaries.
• Communicate with the public, government agencies, contractors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to address inquiries and resolve issues.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Successful completion of JMT's Motor Vehicle screening.
• Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or related field, with at least 7 years of progressive technician experience, or equivalent education and experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Experience analyzing highway construction plans.
• Ability to plan, develop, schedule, and complete projects independently or with limited supervision.
• Knowledge of engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
• Understanding of DOT Standards, Specifications, and Roadway Standard Drawings.
• NCDOT certifications such as Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Density Testing are preferred.
• Experience working with local clients is a plus.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field, requiring physical activities such as bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting objects up to 25 lbs. Conditions may include outdoor work in various weather conditions.
