Our Construction Management Team is seeking a Transportation Technician III to serve as a lead inspector overseeing transportation construction projects in Robbinsville, North Carolina. This position is not eligible for employer-based sponsorship, except for TN visa classification.

This position is available in multiple locations within North Carolina, which can be discussed during the interview with the hiring manager.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Inspect contractor operations on transportation projects, including roadway and bridge construction, to verify compliance with plans and specifications.
• Supervise and coordinate subordinate inspection staff during construction.
• Measure and document quantities of pay items.
• Maintain records such as material certifications, testing reports, and daily diaries.
• Communicate with the public, government agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders to address inquiries and resolve issues.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Successful completion of JMT's Motor Vehicle screening.

Required Experience

• Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or related field, plus five years of progressive technician experience, or equivalent education and experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Experience interpreting highway construction plans.
• Applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
• Knowledge of DOT Standards, Specifications, and Roadway Standard Drawings.
• NCDOT certifications such as Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Density Testing are preferred.
• Experience working with local clients is a plus.

Working Conditions

Fieldwork in outdoor environments with potential hazards including heights, traffic, and rough terrain. Moderate physical activity required (walking, climbing, kneeling, standing). Ability to lift 50 lbs. Night and weekend work may be necessary.
