Our Construction Management Team seeks a Transportation Technician III to serve as a lead inspector, supervising transportation construction projects in North Carolina. Opportunities are available statewide. This position is not eligible for employer sponsorship, except for TN visa classification.

This role can be located in multiple North Carolina locations, which can be discussed during the interview process.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Inspect contractor operations on transportation projects, including roadway and bridge construction, to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
• Supervise and oversee subordinate inspection staff during construction.
• Measure and record quantities of pay items.
• Maintain records such as material certifications, testing reports, and daily diaries.
• Engage with the public, government agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders to address inquiries and resolve issues.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Successful completion of JMT's Motor Vehicle screening.

Required Experience

• Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or related field, with five years of progressive technician experience, or equivalent education and experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Experience analyzing highway construction plans.
• Ability to apply engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
• Knowledge of DOT Standards, Specifications, and Roadway Standard Drawings.
• NCDOT certifications such as Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Density Testing are preferred.
• Experience with local clients is a plus.

Working Conditions

Work is primarily field-based, requiring safety awareness in outdoor environments, including exposure to heights, traffic, and rough terrain. Physical activity includes walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, standing, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Night and weekend work may be necessary.
