Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Create and manipulate emissions and air quality models with supervisor.
  • Collect and analyze air quality, emissions, and meteorological data.
  • Automate mathematical models through software implementation.
  • Clean up data and interpret transportation and air quality data.
  • Develop maps, charts, and plots from spatial data using GIS tools.
  • Prepare materials and training documentation for analytical products.
  • Draft presentations for review and potential public delivery.

The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking a Transportation System Modeler in the Air Quality Technical Planning and Analysis program area to carry out emissions and air quality related modeling activities. The majority of model development work is done internally, and the Air Quality Technical Planning and Analysis program area has forged a collaborative work environment with local governments, community groups, and transportation agencies in the region and strives to improve regional and local air quality while maintaining residential and economic needs.


Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:



  • Working with supervisor to create, and manipulate emissions and air quality models

  • Assisting with data collection including air quality monitoring data, emissions inventory data, meteorological data, etc.

  • Working with supervisor to automate mathematical models through software implementation and programming

  • Assisting with data clean-up, data analysis, and working with supervisor to interpret various transportation and air quality data

  • Working with supervisor to create maps, generate charts and plots from spatial data, edit/maintain datasets utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

  • Working with supervisor to develop materials and documentation for analytical products and training

  • Drafting presentations for supervisor review, with the opportunity to deliver presentations to committee members and/or the general public

  • Drafting for supervisor review, documentation, reports, presentations, and articles


Required Skills



  • Familiarity with emissions and air quality modeling through education or experience

  • Working knowledge of computer programming for computation and analytics in one or more languages (i.e, Java, Python, C++, etc.)

  • Familiarity with design and application of statistical modeling and concepts and related software packages such as R

  • Familiarity with one of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software programs (i.e, TransCAD, ESRI, Post-GIS, etc.)

  • Good communication, both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen to and follow instructions, coordinate with team members, and present ideas

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

  • Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to manage assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing the quality of work


Required Education and Experience



  • Work requires specialized knowledge in a professional or technical field, and requires professional level knowledge which is acquired in a Master’s degree level of study. Relevant fields of study include civil engineering, computer science, data science, or city, regional, or urban planning

  • One year or less of job-related experience in the areas of travel demand modeling, data analysis, and model development; experience may be gained through academic studies, research projects, or professional experience


Starting Salary Range


$63.658.79 – $76,390.55 annually
