Job summary

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking an Intern to support its public involvement and community outreach program in the Dallas–Fort Worth region. You will help with communications and outreach for transportation and air quality projects, while attending college in the DFW area and working at least 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities include drafting materials, developing graphics, updating websites, planning events, and analyzing outreach metrics.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university in a degree‑seeking program (e.g., communications, public relations, advertising, marketing).
• No prior work experience required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
• Familiarity with Publisher and Adobe Creative Suite preferred.

Responsibilities

• Drafting for supervisor review, publications, advertisements, newsletters, correspondence, brochures, mailers, invitations, signs, and flyers.
• Develop graphics, digital and print content, visualizations and overall communication elements for Transportation Department programs and projects.
• Assist with website updates
• Assist with planning for events and committee meetings
• Compile and create marketing analytics/performance measures and reports for educational campaigns
• Coordinate program/project needs for advertising and other communication outlets
• Quantify communication projects
• Gather, organize, and pack materials for community outreach events
• Assist with database maintenance, including data entry

The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking an Intern to support its public involvement and community outreach program. Primary work functions include contributing to communications and outreach efforts for transportation and air quality projects and programs.

Ideal candidates should attend school in the Dallas-Fort Worth region and be able to work at least 20 hours per week while attending school.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Drafting for supervisor review, publications, advertisements, newsletters, correspondence, brochures, mailers, invitations, signs, and flyers
• Working with supervisor to develop graphics, digital and print content, visualizations and overall communication elements for a variety of Transportation Department programs and projects (i.e., Air North Texas)
• Assisting with website updates
• Assisting with planning for events and committee meetings
• Compiling and creating for supervisor review, marketing analytics/performance measures and associated reports for the department’s educational campaigns
• Working with supervisor to coordinate program and/or project needs for advertising and other communication outlets
• Working with supervisor to quantify communication projects
• Gathering, organizing, and packing materials and inventory items for community outreach events
• Assisting with database maintenance, including data entry

Required Skills

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
• Basic knowledge of Publisher and Adobe Creative Suite preferred
• Good communication, both verbal and written, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen to and follow instructions, coordinate with other team members, and present ideas
• Detail oriented, highly organized and creative, with an ability to manage multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing quality of work
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Required Education and Experience

• Must be attending an accredited college or university in a degree‑seeking program during employment, (e.g., communications, public relations, advertising, marketing, or a related field)
• No work experience required

Starting Salary

Minimum of $17.10 per hour
