The Transportation Supervisor coordinates and oversees the distribution function of a branch to ensure timely and cost-efficient delivery of inventory and finished products by performing the following duties. This position reports to the Operations Manager and has a dotted line to the corporate Director of Fleet & Logistics.

Job Responsibilities

1. Manages procedures for transportation of materials to processing and production areas and transportation of finished goods to the customers
2. Promotes safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending branch safety meetings, or meeting with individual staff members
3. Determines the most efficient and economical routing and mode of transportation
4. Directs scheduling of shipments and notifies involved departments and/or customers of arrival dates
5. Negotiates and authorizes contracts with equipment and materials suppliers, and monitors contract fulfillment
6. Plans, organizes, and manages the work of subordinate staff to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational requirements
7. Oversees the compliance of Department of Transportation rules and regulations
8. Oversees the maintenance of our truck fleet by working with the leasing company
9. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

1. Excellent communication skills
2. 3+ years’ experience in transportation, steel industry preferred
3. Knowledge of Department of Transportation “DOT” rules and regulations
4. Strong knowledge of material processing and warehousing
5. Excellent math, organizational, and communication skills
6. Ability to meet workflow requirements & shipping schedule
7. Ability to pass a physical examination for vision, hearing, and mobility
8. Demonstrated reliable work history
9. Must be detail-oriented with a strong focus on precision and quality in all tasks
