An established industry player is seeking a Transportation Supervisor to oversee the distribution function of their branch. This role is crucial for ensuring timely and cost-efficient delivery of inventory and finished products. Job Summary
The Transportation Supervisor coordinates and oversees the distribution function of a branch to ensure timely and cost-efficient delivery of inventory and finished products by performing the following duties. This position reports to the Operations Manager and has a dotted line to the corporate Director of Fleet & Logistics.
Job Responsibilities
• Manages procedures for transportation of materials to processing and production areas and transportation of finished goods to the customers
• Promotes safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending branch safety meetings, or meeting with individual staff members
• Determines the most efficient and economical routing and mode of transportation
• Directs scheduling of shipments and notifies involved departments and/or customer of arrival dates
• Negotiates and authorize contracts with equipment and materials suppliers, and monitor contract fulfillment
• Plans, organizes, and manages the work of subordinate staff to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational requirements
• Oversees the compliance of Department of Transportation rules and regulations
• Oversees the maintenance of our truck fleet by working with the leasing company
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Computer skills
• Excellent communication skills
• HS Diploma or GED
• 3+ years' experience in transportation, steel industry preferred
• Knowledge of Department of Transportation "DOT" rules and regulations
• Strong knowledge of material processing and warehousing
• Excellent math, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to meet workflow requirements & shipping schedule
Ability to pass a physical examination for vision, hearing, and mobility
Demonstrated reliable work history
Must be detail-oriented with a strong focus on precision and quality in all tasks
