A growing Baltimore-based 3PL provider is seeking a Transportation Supervisor to oversee daily transportation and dispatch operations supporting regional and local freight movements. The Transportation Supervisor will be responsible for managing drivers, dispatch activities, carrier relationships, service performance, safety compliance, and customer satisfaction while ensuring efficient utilization of transportation assets.
The ideal candidate will have experience in trucking, dedicated fleet operations, intermodal transportation, drayage, or 3PL transportation management and possess a strong background in team leadership, routing, KPI management, and DOT compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation Operations
- Supervise daily transportation, dispatch, routing, and delivery activities.
- Coordinate driver schedules, load planning, and equipment utilization.
- Monitor shipment execution to ensure on-time pickup and delivery performance.
- Manage transportation capacity to meet customer requirements and service commitments.
- Troubleshoot delivery issues and implement corrective actions to minimize service failures.
Driver & Fleet Management
- Lead, coach, and develop drivers, dispatchers, and transportation support personnel.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and performance discussions.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, Hours of Service (HOS), ELD, and company operating procedures.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to maximize equipment availability and fleet readiness.
- Monitor driver productivity, utilization, and service performance metrics.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for customers regarding transportation service issues.
- Build and maintain strong carrier and owner-operator relationships.
- Resolve customer concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Support business growth initiatives through exceptional service execution.
Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Track and analyze KPIs including:
- On-Time Delivery
- Route Efficiency
- Safety Performance
- Transportation Costs
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.
- Develop and implement process improvement initiatives.
- Support operational reporting and performance reviews.
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of transportation, trucking, logistics, or fleet operations experience.
- 1+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
- Strong understanding of transportation operations within a 3PL, trucking, dedicated fleet, drayage, or distribution environment.
- Knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, HOS, and transportation safety regulations.
- Experience using Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
