Job summary

LHH is seeking an Operations Manager to lead daily transportation operations for a fleet focused on container drayage, regional trucking, and customer delivery services. You will oversee dispatch, driver performance, port operations, equipment utilization, and safety compliance.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years in transportation or logistics, experience with fleets of 30+ drivers, and strong skills in TMS, GPS/tracking, and ELD.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of transportation, trucking, or logistics operations management experience.
  • Strong experience with container drayage and port operations.
  • Experience managing fleets of 30+ drivers.
  • Knowledge of chassis pools, marine terminals, intermodal transportation, and container movement.
  • Strong understanding of TMS, GPS tracking, and ELD systems.
  • Proven leadership, coaching, and performance management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, real-time operational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily dispatch operations for a fleet of drivers and equipment.
  • Optimize routing, load planning, and resource utilization.
  • Monitor real-time transportation activity and resolve service interruptions.
  • Ensure on-time pick-up and delivery performance.
  • Drive operational efficiencies and reduce transportation costs.
  • Manage container appointments and port scheduling activities.
  • Coordinate movements between ports, rail yards, warehouses, and customer locations.
  • Oversee chassis utilization and equipment availability.
  • Minimize demurrage, detention, and per diem costs.
  • Develop relationships with steamship lines, terminals, and port authorities.
  • Lead driver recruitment, onboarding, retention, and performance management.
  • Coach and develop drivers to improve productivity and service levels.
  • Conduct safety meetings and operational reviews.
  • Manage driver schedules, coverage plans, and workforce planning.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for service-related issues.
  • Maintain strong relationships with customers and business partners.
  • Ensure customer expectations are met through proactive communication.
  • Track KPIs and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and company policies.
  • Monitor ELD, Hours-of-Service, and driver qualification requirements.
  • Lead accident investigations and corrective action plans.
  • Promote a culture of safety and accountability.

Key Responsibilities
Fleet & Dispatch Management
  • Oversee daily dispatch operations for a fleet of drivers and equipment.
  • Optimize routing, load planning, and resource utilization.
  • Monitor real‑time transportation activity and resolve service interruptions.
  • Ensure on‑time pick‑up and delivery performance.
