Job summary

DOWL’s Transportation Planning and Design team seeks a Transportation Specifications Specialist (Engineer-in-Training) to develop and maintain specifications for civil/environmental projects. You’ll collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure accuracy, clarity, and compliance with client standards across multiple programs.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s degree, 2 years’ related experience, and an EIT/EI.

Qualifications

• Experience in specification writing or technical writing.
• Strong understanding of technical fundamentals.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
• Willingness to learn and expand technical writing skills.
• Familiar with interpreting design guidance from memos/reports.

Responsibilities

• Prepare technical reports, memos, and specifications.
• Calculate construction quantities and cost estimates.
• Create design documents and construction plans.
• Coordinate meetings with engineers, project managers, clients and stakeholders.
• Ensure specifications align with client and company standards.
• Perform quality control of basic deliverables and assist senior staff.
