Introduction

The WI Department of Transportation (WisDOT), Division of Transportation System Development (DTSD) is seeking an interested and qualified individual to fill a Transportation Specialist Supervisor position in the North Central Region. This full-time career executive position will be headquartered in Wisconsin Rapids or Rhinelander. This position offers a hybridized work schedule. The position will be headquartered at and required to work from one of the DTSD North Central Office Buildings at least 2 days per week. All employees working a hybrid work schedule are generally expected to telework from within the State of Wisconsin. This topic will be discussed more at the time of the interview.

Position Summary

This is a Project Development Unit Supervisor position in the North Central (NC) Region working under the general supervision of the Project Development Section Chief. This unit is responsible for the region’s program controls, consultant contracting, and local improvement programs. This position is responsible for technical oversight; participation in, and/or approval of, project decisions; and coordination with other regional supervisors to maintain a working knowledge of current activities, issues, and decisions related to the improvement programs. This position performs administrative and supervisory functions in the field of engineering and is responsible for the supervision of professional and technical staff that provide support for engineering related functions.

This position’s primary role is to achieve program objectives by interpreting and applying policy within its programmatic area and directly supervising a staff of professional and technical positions. This includes coordinating staff and resources to meet program objectives; providing training and developmental opportunities to staff; applying technical expertise in decision-making; developing and implementing policy; and prioritizing, assigning, and monitoring work to meet project requirements and deadlines. Additionally, this position requires effective communication with internal and external partners, other agencies, consultants, and contractors.

Salary Information

This position is in schedule-range 81-30 with an annual salary of $91,520-$101,920, plus excellent benefits. A twelve-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

This position requires the ability to travel independently to supervise staff in other regional office, conduct field site visits, and attend training and statewide meetings.

• Formal experience performing a wide scope of supervisory duties that includes overseeing a variety of professional staff and may include multiple program areas
• Negotiating professional services contracts
• Working on local, state, or federal transportation projects and/or programs
