Transportation Security Officers

Transportation Security Officers are responsible for providing security and protection of travelers across all transportation sectors in a courteous and professional manner. Their duties may also extend to securing high-profile events, important figures, and other activities impacting our transportation systems. To qualify for the SV-D pay band (equivalent to GS-5/6), you must meet one of the following qualification requirements:

1. Experience: At least one year of full-time work experience in the security industry, aviation screening, or as an X-ray technician.
2. Education: High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or TASC high school equivalency certificate.

Experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited proportionally. Volunteer experience through National Service programs or other organizations is also credited.

Additional requirements include:

• Occasional Travel: Up to six weeks of full-time travel for training, paid and reimbursed according to TSA policies.
• Selective Service Registration: Verification required for male applicants born after 12/31/59.
• Credit Check: Applicants must not have delinquent taxes or child support payments.
• Residency: Resided in the U.S. for three of the last five years, with exceptions.
