Position: Transportation Safety Coordinator
Work Schedule: Full Year
Salary: DOQ; Starting Salary $65,000

Summary
The Transportation Safety Coordinator will support the work of the Transportation Department by providing safety, regulatory, and compliance interface, training, and follow-up to district employees and vendors. Support the safe delivery of transportation services to all public and non-public schools within the boundaries of North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale Schools in accordance with School Board policies, and state and federal guidelines.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and MN Department of Public Safety regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate and ensure field compliance with Driver Qualification (DQ) Files, Motor Vehicle Reports (MVR), and DOT Drug and Alcohol (D&A) Testing Program.
- Ensure District-owned vehicles are properly maintained for safety and reliability through regular audits and inspections.
- Review and support internal and external audits and follow-up of corrective actions.
- Serve as the leader of OSHA compliance, best practices, and regular review.
- Assist in supporting integration of safety policies and practices at various levels of the organization designed to reduce incidents and claims.
- Build successful working relationships with district administrators, school resource officers, local city and county emergency management agencies.
- Advise and assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure safety programs are aligned with ISD 622 and departmental goals.
- Drive to collision and incident scenes; conduct field supervision of drivers; attend meetings.
- Conduct incident/collision investigations and after-action reviews.
- Analyze safety trends and recommend improvement initiatives based on data.
- Support records and data management functions.
- Work with transportation and operations leadership to manage and implement loss control measures and training based on feedback from district insurance carriers.
Develop, implement, and support training on:
- Student behavior management

- Creating a culture of safety

- OSHA compliance
- Emergency response
- Other relevant topics
Schedule employee training, maintain records, and coordinate safety training sessions to ensure compliance. Keep accurate records of completion, certifications, and renewal dates. Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities

Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license & evidence of insurability.
- Minimum of two years of relevant experience in passenger transportation safety and compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
- Unrestricted valid CDL with Medical Certification, passenger endorsement, no air brake restriction.
- Two years experience in pupil transportation safety and training, or four years in passenger transportation safety or related field.
- Experience with transportation systems such as Traversa, Vehicle telematics, and Trip Tracker.
- Experience administering federal DOT mandated drug testing programs.
- Experience with PBIS and/or Restorative Practices in a school setting.
Work Environment
ISD 622 is dedicated to educating and empowering learners. The role involves working indoors, outdoors, and in vehicles. Physical demands include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. The environment may include temperature extremes and exposure to risks of injury or illness.
