Position Overview
BKF Engineers is seeking a highly skilled Transportation Technical Manager to lead complex transportation projects and drive strategic goals related to public infrastructure. The role requires in-depth knowledge of Caltrans standards, design manuals, and local procedures, focusing on roadway projects, grade separations, signalized intersections, and more. The ideal candidate will lead technical efforts, mentor staff, and coordinate with stakeholders, with limited or no business development responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide technical leadership and oversee project execution, ensuring designs align with Caltrans standards.
  2. Review plans, specifications, and estimates for compliance with project requirements.
  3. Coordinate procurement and permitting processes for infrastructure projects.
  4. Ensure quality assurance and compliance with evolving standards and regulations.
  5. Manage construction staging and traffic strategies to minimize public disruption.
  6. Mentor and guide engineering staff, fostering a collaborative environment.
  7. Coordinate with public agencies and participate in project meetings, providing technical input.
  8. Maintain project documentation and track milestones.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering or related field.
  • California PE license required.
  • Minimum of 10 years managing complex transportation projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of Caltrans Highway Design Manual, specifications, and procedures.
  • Proven experience with highways, interchanges, signals, and grade separations.
  • Proficiency in civil design software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, etc.).
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed and hold a valid California Driver's License.

Physical Demands & Work Conditions
Must be able to operate a computer and lift up to 20 pounds. Exposure to office environment and travel to project sites may be required.
