Job summary

Volkert, Inc. is seeking an experienced Transportation Project Manager to support Gulf Region operations in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

The role requires leading transportation projects, coordinating design teams, and interfacing with clients and agencies. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years in transportation engineering, an ABET-accredited civil engineering degree, and Alabama PE license, with proficiency in major design software.

Responsibilities

• Provide project management and plan review for Volkert clients in Alabama.
• Organize activities, schedules, and reports for transportation projects.
• Lead or assist in developing project designs and direct designers to deliver projects.
• Provide technical design guidance on roadway design, traffic operations, signaling, and planning.
• Prepare engineering studies, documents, and reports.
• Manage project budgets to meet financial metrics.
• Attend meetings and interface with clients and the public.
• Market to new and existing clients and participate in business development.
• Assist in developing junior staff and provide QA/QC per quality manual.

We are currently searching for an experienced Transportation Project Manager to support our Gulf Regionlocated in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, 5 years of experience in either Traffic or Roadway design.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Provide project management and plan review for Volkert clients in Alabama
• Organize activities, schedules, and reports in support of transportation projects
• Lead or assist in developing project designs and direct designers to successfully execute and deliver project work while implementing client-focused strategies
• Provide technical design and guidance on projects that may include roadway design, traffic operations analysis, traffic signal design and timing, corridor and safety studies, temporary traffic control and traffic management plans, signing and pavement marking plans, and transportation planning and modeling
• Prepare engineering studies, documents, and reports
• Prepare, issue, and track project documentation such as contracts and change orders for all phases of assigned work
• Manage project budgets to meet financial metrics
• Prepare correspondence and documents with clients, subconsultants, and regulatory agencies as required
• Attend project meetings and interact with clients and the public about your work and the context of the plans you develop
• Market to new and existing clients and participate in business development activities
• Assist in the development of junior engineering staff and Engineering Interns
• Adhere to company standards for quality assurance and quality control as defined in the quality manual
• Perform other duties as assigned

What You Need To Have

• B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
• 5+ years of transportation engineering experience with a history of progressive growth in project responsibilities
• Alabama Professional Engineer (PE) License
• Experience with industry software such as MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, InRoads, ArcGIS, Synchro, VISSIM, SIDRA, or HCS
• Proficiency with MS Office tools such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to maintain project schedules, which may require occasional extended hours and overnight travel
• Must be dependable, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team to meet deadlines and provide high-quality work
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
• Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)

Bonus Points If You Have

• Experience with ALDOT, MDOT, TDOT, or local government agencies
• Established client relationships in Alabama
• Additional PE licenses in neighboring states
• PTOE, PTP, or RSP certification
• Familiarity with travel demand modeling software such as CUBE Voyager or TransCAD
• Business development or proposal experience
