Job summary

Volkert is seeking an experienced Transportation Project Manager to support our Gulf Region located in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. The role focuses on project management, plan reviews, and coordinating multidisciplinary teams to deliver transportation projects successfully.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in transportation engineering, an ABET-accredited engineering degree, and a valid Alabama PE license. Strong communication, budgeting, and business development skills are essential.

Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 5+ years of transportation engineering experience with progressive responsibilities.
• Alabama Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Experience with industry software such as MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, InRoads, ArcGIS, Synchro, VISSIM, SIDRA, or HCS.
• Proficiency with MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage schedules and travel as needed.
• Valid driver's license and satisfactory MVR.

Responsibilities

• Provide project management and plan review for Volkert clients in Alabama.

• Provide technical design and guidance on roadway design and traffic studies.
• Prepare engineering studies, documents, and reports.
• Prepare, issue, and track project documentation (contracts, change orders).

• Attend project meetings and interact with clients and the public.
• Market to new and existing clients and participate in business development.
• Assist in developing junior staff and Engineering Interns.
• Adhere to quality assurance/quality control standards.

We are currently searching for an experienced Transportation Project Manager to support our Gulf Region located in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, 5 years of experience in either Traffic or Roadway design.

What you’ll be doing:

• Provide project management and plan review for Volkert clients in Alabama
• Organize activities, schedules, and reports in support of transportation projects
• Lead or assist in developing project designs and direct designers to successfully execute and deliver project work while implementing client-focused strategies
• Provide technical design and guidance on projects that may include roadway design, traffic operations analysis, traffic signal design and timing, corridor and safety studies, temporary traffic control and traffic management plans, signing and pavement marking plans, and transportation planning and modeling
• Prepare engineering studies, documents, and reports
• Prepare, issue, and track project documentation such as contracts and change orders for all phases of assigned work
• Manage project budgets to meet financial metrics
• Prepare correspondence and documents with clients, subconsultants, and regulatory agencies as required
• Attend project meetings and interact with clients and the public about your work and the context of the plans you develop
• Market to new and existing clients and participate in business development activities
• Assist in the development of junior engineering staff and Engineering Interns
• Adhere to company standards for quality assurance and quality control as defined in the quality manual
• Perform other duties as assigned

What you need to have:

• B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
• 5+ years of transportation engineering experience with a history of progressive growth in project responsibilities
• Alabama Professional Engineer (PE) License
• Experience with industry software such as MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, InRoads, ArcGIS, Synchro, VISSIM, SIDRA, or HCS
• Proficiency with MS Office tools such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to maintain project schedules, which may require occasional extended hours and overnight travel
• Must be dependable, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team to meet deadlines and provide high-quality work
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
• Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)

Bonus points if you have:

• Experience with ALDOT, MDOT, TDOT, or local government agencies
• Established client relationships in Alabama
• Additional PE licenses in neighboring states
• PTOE, PTP, or RSP certification
• Familiarity with travel demand modeling software such as CUBE Voyager or TransCAD
• Business development or proposal experience
