Job summary

GHD's US West Roads team is seeking a Transportation Project Engineer – Municipal Roadways to lead roadway design assignments for cities and counties in California. You will manage complete design packages, mentor junior staff, and coordinate across planning, preliminary engineering, final design, and construction support.

This hybrid, office-based role offers collaboration with clients and disciplines, exposure to design-build and design-bid-build projects, and growth toward project management.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 7 years of progressive civil engineering experience focused on municipal roadway projects.
• California Civil Engineer license, or the ability to obtain registration within 12 months.
• Hands-on experience delivering small to midsize roadway/public works projects and coordinating complete design packages.
• Proficiency with Caltrans and local agency standards, permitting, funding, and project delivery requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead design tasks and small to midsize municipal roadway projects.
• Own and coordinate complete PS&E packages, technical memoranda, and cost estimates.
• Integrate roadway, grading, drainage, utility, traffic, accessibility, and environmental inputs into designs.
• Collaborate with public agencies, contractors, subconsultants, utility owners, construction teams, and internal disciplines to keep projects moving.
• Manage or support the scope, schedule, budget, staffing, risk, and quality of assignments.
• Guide junior engineers and designers and provide responsive support during bidding and construction.
