Transportation Planning and Design

Summary

DOWL is seeking a skilled and motivated Transportation Project Engineer 2 to lead on exciting transportation infrastructure projects. You’ll be involved in projects from bike paths to freeways, leading engineering calculations, design efforts, site visits, technical reports, and stakeholder engagement. You will also handle scope, budget, and project coordination from start to finish.

Ideal candidates will have advanced proficiency in design software, a strong work ethic, and the ability to quickly learn and teach new concepts. Passion for innovation, mentoring, and community-focused transportation solutions is essential.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

Successful performance requires the ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily. The following are key responsibilities:

Software
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) - Advanced
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D - Advanced
  • MicroStation Connect and OpenRoads - Advanced (if applicable)
  • Revit, InfraWorks - Proficient (if applicable)
  • Other specialized tools (AutoTurn, GuideSign)
Technical Expertise
  • Deep understanding of technical fundamentals
  • Mentoring and providing solutions to complex challenges
  • Quality control of deliverables
Teamwork

Effective team leader and player, providing clear communication, setting expectations, and taking responsibility for results.

Project Delivery

Lead production and quality control of technical reports, specifications, cost estimates, design documents, and proposals.

Budget and Schedule

Strong grasp of scope, schedule, and budget management; ability to prioritize and deliver within constraints; mentor others.

Standards & Regulations
  • Interpret and apply AASHTO, FHWA, and local codes; mentor others in code interpretation
Client Interaction

Regular communication with clients, leading project meetings, and understanding legal and messaging considerations.

Other Duties

Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Work Level & Supervision

Operate with high autonomy on complex projects, review others’ work, mentor, and possibly perform assistant project management or engineering roles.
