Job summary

Thomas & Hutton is seeking a Transportation Project Engineer to lead roadway and corridor design across the Southeast. You will collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams while owning projects from concept to construction.

The role requires a PE license and 5+ years in transportation engineering, with strong skills in MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer and related software. On-site, competitive compensation, and growth opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 5+ years of transportation engineering and roadway design experience.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, GEOPAK and/or InRoads.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with clients.

Responsibilities

Transportation Project Engineer

What you'll do
  • Perform transportation design for roadway, intersection, and corridor improvement projects
  • Prepare engineering calculations, roadway plans, quantity estimates, technical reports, and construction documents
  • Lead permitting efforts and coordinate with local and state transportation agencies, including FDOT, GDOT, and other applicable jurisdictions
  • Develop technical specifications and bid documents for transportation projects
  • Manage and execute project tasks to meet scope, schedule, and quality goals
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, and internal multidisciplinary teams throughout project delivery
  • Perform construction administration activities including site visits and coordination with contractors
  • Utilize MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, GEOPAK, and related design software to develop and refine transportation designs
What you bring
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • 5+ years of experience in transportation engineering and roadway design
  • Strong experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, GEOPAK, and/or InRoads software applications
  • Progressive experience in planning, design, and permitting of transportation improvement projects
  • Strong understanding of roadway geometrics, transportation design standards, and construction plan development
  • Experience preparing roadway plans, quantity calculations, technical reports, and construction documents
  • Ability to write technical specifications and bid documents
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with clients
  • Proven ability to manage multiple assignments and appropriately prioritize workflow
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Client service-oriented mindset with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Schedule:

On-site: MondayThursday 7:30 a.m.5:30 p.m.; Friday 7:30 a.m.11:30 a.m.
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
