Job summary

Thomas & Hutton is seeking a Transportation Engineer to advance roadway design projects across the Southeast. You will work with mentors, contribute to construction drawings, and support project delivery using your civil engineering expertise.

The role requires 3+ years of transportation design experience, a Civil Engineering degree, and proficiency with MicroStation V8 and related tools. EIT is preferred, and a strong office suite skillset is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
• 3+ years of experience on transportation design projects.
• EIT certification preferred.
• Strong knowledge of MicroStation V8 and InRoads or GEOPAK.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
• Ability to read engineering plans and perform basic calculations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare construction drawings, layouts, and exhibits per GDOT and SCDOT guidelines.
• Perform geometric calculations and estimate construction quantities using CADD tools.
• Assist with design and development of transportation improvement projects, including roadway plans.
• Coordinate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to support delivery.
• Produce and refine design files ensuring accuracy and adherence to standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support transportation projects.

What you'll do

• Prepare construction drawings, layouts, and exhibits in accordance with GDOT Plan Presentation Guide & Electronic Data Guidelines and/or SCDOT plan preparation guidelines
• Perform geometric calculations and estimate construction quantities using CADD tools
• Assist with the design and development of transportation improvement projects, including roadway and related infrastructure plans
• Coordinate regularly with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to support project delivery
• Produce and refine design files, ensuring accuracy, quality, and adherence to project standards
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support transportation projects

What you bring

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
• 3+ years of experience working on transportation design projects
• EIT certification preferred
• Strong working knowledge of MicroStation V8 and InRoads or GEOPAK
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software
• Ability to read engineering plans and perform basic calculations
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D is a plus
