Job summary

Thomas & Hutton is seeking a transportation engineer to advance roadway design across the Southeast. You will prepare drawings, perform geometric calculations, and support project delivery with experienced mentors in a collaborative environment.

The role requires a Civil Engineering degree, 3+ years of transportation design experience, and proficiency with MicroStation/V8, InRoads or GEOPAK, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MS Office. EIT is preferred; on-site schedule in Buford, GA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is required.
• 3+ years of experience on transportation design projects.
• EIT certification preferred.
• Strong knowledge of MicroStation V8 and InRoads or GEOPAK.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
• Ability to read engineering plans and perform basic calculations.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare construction drawings, layouts, and exhibits per GDOT/SDOT guidelines.
• Perform geometric calculations and estimate construction quantities using CADD tools.
• Assist with design and development of transportation improvement projects including roadway plans.
• Coordinate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to support delivery.
• Produce and refine design files ensuring accuracy and quality.
• Support transportation projects with additional duties as assigned.

What you’ll do

• Prepare construction drawings, layouts, and exhibits in accordance with GDOT Plan Presentation Guide & Electronic Data Guidelines and/or SCDOT plan preparation guidelines
• Perform geometric calculations and estimate construction quantities using CADD tools
• Assist with the design and development of transportation improvement projects, including roadway and related infrastructure plans
• Coordinate regularly with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to support project delivery
• Produce and refine design files, ensuring accuracy, quality, and adherence to project standards
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support transportation projects

What you bring
