Job summary

Thomas & Hutton is seeking a transportation engineer in Georgia to advance roadway and corridor design across the Southeast. You will lead projects, coordinate with clients and multidisciplinary teams, and apply technical expertise to complex transportation design challenges.

You will use MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, GEOPAK, and related software, with opportunities to grow in a Best Place to Work environment. Take ownership of tasks, manage priorities, and contribute to quality outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Requires Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is required
  • 5+ years of transportation engineering and roadway design experience
  • Proficient with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, GEOPAK and/or InRoads
  • Experience planning, design and permitting of transportation improvement projects
  • Solid understanding of roadway geometrics and construction plan development
  • Ability to prepare roadway plans, quantity calculations, technical reports and construction documents
  • Ability to write technical specifications and bid documents
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with clients
  • Proven ability to manage multiple assignments and prioritize workflow
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines
  • Client service‑oriented and able to work independently or in a team

Responsibilities

What you’ll do

  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, and internal multidisciplinary teams throughout project delivery
  • Perform construction administration activities including site visits and coordination with contractors
  • Utilize MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, GEOPAK, and related design software to develop and refine transportation designs
What you bring
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • 5+ years of experience in transportation engineering and roadway design
  • Strong experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, GEOPAK, and/or InRoads software applications
  • Progressive experience in planning, design, and permitting of transportation improvement projects
  • Strong understanding of roadway geometrics, transportation design standards, and construction plan development
  • Experience preparing roadway plans, quantity calculations, technical reports, and construction documents
  • Ability to write technical specifications and bid documents
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with clients
  • Proven ability to manage multiple assignments and appropriately prioritize workflow

Schedule: On-site Monday–Thursday 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.; Friday 7:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
