The Agency of Transportation is seeking temporary Transportation Operations Technicians in the Bradford garage. These positions will be responsible for various tasks related to highway maintenance, such as repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching roads, picking litter, ditching, and more. It is anticipated that these positions will work 40 hours per week for approximately seven months.
This position, Transportation Operations Technician I (Job Req #52470), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Duties require working in extreme outdoor weather conditions. Employees may need to report outside of their scheduled hours and must be reachable by phone. Work involves risks near heavy equipment, hazardous materials, roadside litter, and traffic. Exposure to blood and airborne pathogens is possible. Work hazards include traffic, floods, snow, ice, and hazardous materials. Employees must be able to use maintenance tools and lift materials. Participation in a random drug and alcohol-testing program is required prior to vehicle or equipment operation. Considerable overtime work, especially in winter, is a condition of employment.
No education or experience required. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
High school diploma or equivalent.
A valid driver’s license is required. Incumbents must live reasonably close to their assigned work station. Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required for successful completion of probation. All VTTC coursework must be completed within six months or the employee must be enrolled.
