This is an exciting opportunity to perform seasonal road maintenance work for the Agency of Transportation (VTrans). This position is responsible for various tasks related to highway maintenance, such as repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching roads, picking litter, ditching, and more. These positions may work up to 40 hours per week depending on the needs of the district.
This position, Transportation Operations Technician I - Temporary (Job Requisition #52271), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position, typically for variable hours and not guaranteed to be full-time. Please note: This recruitment is at multiple levels. Duties require working in extreme outdoor weather conditions. Employees may need to report outside of scheduled hours and be reachable by phone. Work near heavy equipment, hazardous materials, roadside litter, and traffic poses risks. Exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens is possible. Participation in a random drug and alcohol testing program is required. Considerable overtime, especially during winter, is expected and a condition of employment.
No education or experience required. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
High school diploma or equivalent.
A valid driver's license is required. Incumbents must live near their workstation. A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for completing probation. All VTTC coursework must be completed within six months or be enrolled.
