Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks an Assistant Chief Engineer for Operations to provide executive leadership across seven districts and emergency operations. You will coordinate with the Chief Engineer for Operations and other offices to meet departmental goals and manage complex contracts.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field and extensive management experience, with travel and occasional after-hours work. A valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management is required.
• A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
• Extensive experience in engineering or construction management and oversight.

Responsibilities

• Oversee seven engineering districts and emergency operations under the Chief Engineer for Operations.
• Liaise between the office of the Chief Engineer for Operations and districts, for complex agreements and contracts.
• Review overtime reports, manage budgets, and supervise emergency operations staff.
• Represent the Department in contracts and meetings with legislators, agencies, and stakeholders.
• Monitor and report on maintenance, construction, and traffic operation programs and metrics.
• Assist in strategic plan goals and perform related duties as assigned.
