Job summary

Are you looking for a rewarding opportunity to assist the senior community and individuals with special needs in the area of transportation? Do you have experience working with individuals with disabilities? Are you someone who enjoys training individuals with disabilities and getting out in the public? We are looking for experienced candidates with a background in special education, public transit experience, mobility training, social work, or related discipline who enjoys working independently. Training will be provided. Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin, Farsi, Armenian, or Korean preferred. Excellent oral and communication skills in English required. Pay range is $24-26/hour with a competitive benefits package and mileage reimbursement.

POSITION SUMMARY

MMP’s Mobility Training Department is seeking a full time energetic Transportation Mobility Specialist trainer to assist special needs individuals in utilizing public transportation. Competitive compensation package is included with this position. The Transportation Mobility Specialist (TMS) is responsible for educating participants with various disabilities about public transportation, utilizing a variety of training methods including both classroom and in-field settings. This is a field position where frequent travel is required throughout the county. Mileage is reimbursed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Educate participants to safely utilize public transit resources in a variety of settings
• Support the safety and well-being of participants at all times
• Follow prescribed methods and procedures for each project
• Attend various public events or meetings/outreach events
• Update and maintain project-specific informational databases
• Complete required reporting correctly within the established timeframes
• Maintain ongoing effective communications with management, staff and other respective parties
• Provide back-up coverage for various projects
• Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Associate degree, B.A. Degree, currently enrolled in 2 or 4 year college program with an emphasis on education, special education, kinesiology, social work, occupational or physical therapy, psychology or other human services related field with 3-5 years ‘experience of applicable experience working with seniors/individuals with disabilities
• Or High School diploma with 5 years of experience in directly related experience with seniors/individuals with disabilities
• Minimum of 1 year of proven marketing experience.
• Specific project requirements may include bilingual skills - speaking, writing, and reading in English.
• Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin, Farsi, Armenian or Korean preferred

KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES

• Common challenges faced by persons with disabilities in utilizing public transportation systems
• Common challenges faced by seniors in activities involving general mobility and the use of public transportation systems
• Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations and other applicable local, state, and federal laws governing the provision of transportation services to individuals with disabilities

• Valid California driver’s license, vehicle insurance, good driving record and reliable personal vehicle that is not shared with any other party.
• Certification in Adult CPR and First Aid (training will be provided)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to react and provide reasonable assistance to participants in the event of an emergency. The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and climb stairs. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel mostly in the use of a computer keyboard and mouse; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift, carry, and otherwise transport and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, and peripheral vision and depth perception in use of a computer, in driving, and in navigating public transportation systems.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those and employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Primary duties are carried out in the field with occasional work in an office environment; the position requires exposure to outside weather conditions.

• Ability to work with challenges faced by seniors in activities involving general mobility and the use of public transportation systems
• An understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations and other applicable local, state, and federal laws governing the provision of transportation services to individuals with disabilities, preferred
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
• Must be able to interact professionally with participants
• Public presentation skills highly preferred
• MS Office computer skills and proficiency in other computer tools such as Google Maps Street view, Skype, & Remote Desktop
