Job summary

Cartersville City Schools is seeking a Mechanic I to keep district vehicles in excellent operating condition. You will perform repairs on school buses, attend in-service trainings, and assist with inspections and preventive maintenance.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs on school system owned vehicles in the shop and on road calls.
• Attend in-service/workshops to improve mechanical skills.
• Assist in annual inspections of all Cartersville City School System buses.
• Assist in troubleshooting and repairing gasoline engines, carburetor, electrical ignition.
• Assist in diesel engine troubleshooting and repairs.
• Assist in braking systems troubleshooting and repair (air, hydraulic, drum, disk).
• Assist in drive train troubleshooting and repair.
• Assist in electrical systems and safety equipment maintenance.
• Assist in troubleshooting the mechanical and safety systems of system vehicles.
• Obeys all traffic laws and maintains satisfactory driving record.
• Performs tasks in the preventive maintenance program as mechanic I.

Reports to: Mechanic I

Job Summary: To assist in keeping the system's vehicles in such state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program.

• Perform repairs as needed on school system owned vehicles in the shop and on road calls.
• Attends in-service and/or workshops designed to improve mechanical skills.
• Assist in making annual inspections of all Cartersville City School System buses.
• Assists in troubleshooting and repairing gasoline engines, including carburetor and electrical service and electronic ignition.
• Assists in troubleshooting and diagnosing diesel engines, making repairs as necessary.
• Assists in troubleshooting and repairing braking systems, including air, hydraulic, drum, and disk brakes.
• Assists in troubleshooting and repairing drive trains.
• Assists in troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems including all safety lights and equipment.
• Assists in troubleshooting and repairing the mechanical and safety system of system vehicles.
• Possesses knowledge of the fuel injection system in order to make repairs as needed.
• Understands emission control system in order to make repairs as may be needed.
• Obeys all traffic laws and maintains satisfactory driving record.
• Performs tasks as mechanic in the preventive maintenance program.
• Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may, from time to time, be assigned by the Mechanic I.
