Job summary

Native Maine is seeking an experienced Transportation Manager to oversee the company’s transportation network, safety programs, and fleet operations in Westbrook, ME. This role ensures DOT compliance, coordinates maintenance, and drives on-time delivery while controlling costs.

You will hire and onboard drivers, manage DVIRs, routing, and safety training, and collaborate with insurance and maintenance teams. Strong organizational skills and 2–5 years of management experience are essential.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

Transportation Manager directs, develops, and implements overall operations of a transportation network including safety, compliance, equipment, and staff. Develops and directs operational policies and procedures to ensure safety and efficiency in all transportation activities. This is an Operations position responsible for directing the activities associated with Delivery.

• Coordinates all repairs for company fleet;
• Collects Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR’s) and coordinate any necessary repairs;
• Manages, implements, and maintains maintenance files for truck fleet and company equipment (i.e. forklift and pallet jacks);
• Maintain Driver Qualification Files;
• Hire drivers (both CDL and NON-CDL);
• Implement background checks, drug tests, driving history, and any prescreening for new drivers;
• Manage onboarding and training for new drivers;
• Daily routing of trucks;
• Road tests for drivers;
• Monthly safety training;
• Intermittent Driver Safety Training;
• Corrective Action reports (when necessary);
• Maintain DOT compliance;
• Keep MCS-150 current and on file;
• Full completion of special projects and audits;
• Operations management for mid and second shift as it relates to transportation.

Qualifications: Professional Qualifications

• 2-5 year’s managerial experience minimum required
• CDL Driver’s License is a plus, but not required
• Familiarity with FMCSR (Federal Motor Vehicle Carrier Safety Regulations)
• Work with insurance companies to oversee truck accident claims
• Troubleshoot driver and fleet issues, developing a network of employees to cover this 24/7
• Proficient with typing, email, Microsoft Office, etc.
• Detailed and organized record keeper is a must
• Dedicated team player with strong accountability mandatory

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• May be required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear
• May be required to lift and/or move objects 10-75 lbs., occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 lbs.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
• Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance
• Safely operate electric pallet jacks and possibly a reach machine, and to push or pull a hand truck
• Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust and focus
• Specific hearing abilities required for this job include adequate hearing over a loud work environment in which several pieces of machinery are frequently running including pallet jacks, large shipping vehicles, motors, engines, etc.
• Will be required to enter and exit large, refrigerated coolers, as well as work in warehouse open to outdoor temperatures during shipping and/or receiving. Must be able to tolerate working in temperatures ranging from 25 degrees up to 100 degrees; work environment may be cool and wet
• Ability to multitask, reprioritize, and to make quick decisions and follow commands of supervising staff
• Meet attendance standards
