Job summary

Southwire Company in the United States is seeking an experienced Transportation Manager who oversees enterprise transportation, develops strategies to optimize routes, reduce costs, and ensure compliance with regulations. The role focuses on guiding a small team, coordinating carrier relationships, and implementing tracking systems for better performance.

The position requires 5–7 years of experience in transportation management, a Bachelor's degree, and CTL certification.

Qualifications

  • Minimum education level is a Bachelor27s degree.
  • 517 years of experience in transportation management.
  • Certification in transportation management (e.g., CTL) is preferred.
  • 811 years experience preferred for expanded scope.

Responsibilities

  • Advise team on transportation best practices to ensure safe, efficient operations.
  • Assist manager in developing and implementing strategic plans that align transportation activities with business goals.
  • Coordinate processes to ensure timely movement of goods and optimize routes.
  • Define project terms and establish timelines for transportation initiatives.
  • Devises solutions to delays, breakdowns, and compliance challenges.
  • Direct workflow of the transportation team including fleet management, scheduling, and route planning.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and applicable laws.
  • Evaluate performance using data on delivery times, costs, and service levels.
  • Implement systems to improve tracking, reporting, and management of transportation activities.
  • Manage staff performance and development.

Job Summary

Oversees enterprise transportation to ensure efficient and cost-effective movement of goods. Develops and implements strategies to optimize routes, reduce costs, manage relationships with carriers, and ensure compliance with transportation regulations and company policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advises team members on transportation best practices, including safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance, to ensure optimal operations.
  • Assists manager in developing and implementing strategic plans that align transportation activities with overall business objectives and operational goals.
  • Coordinates processes and assignments to ensure the timely and efficient movement of goods, optimizing routes, and managing logistics challenges.
  • Defines project terms and establishes timelines for transportation initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and resource availability.
  • Devises solutions to transportation-related issues, such as delays, vehicle breakdowns, and compliance challenges, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Directs workflow of the transportation team, ensuring that daily operations, including fleet management, scheduling, and route planning, are performed effectively.
  • Ensures compliance with transportation regulations and safety standards, both internally and externally, including DOT, OSHA, and other applicable laws.
  • Evaluates performance of transportation operations by reviewing data and reports on delivery times, costs, and service levels, making recommendations for improvement.
  • Implements systems and software to improve tracking, reporting, and management of transportation activities, enhancing overall efficiency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Manages staff performance and development, coaching team members to achieve their full potential in contributing to the department's goals.
Required Education & Experience

Minimum Education Level: Bachelor's Degree

Years of Experience: 5-7 Years

Specialized Degree: None

Licenses/Certificates: Certification in transportation management (such as Certified in Transportation and Logistics (CTL))

Years of Experience: 8-11 Years
