Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation in Texas is seeking Transportation Maintenance Tech II/III/IV to perform maintenance, inspections, and operations on roadways and bridges. The role requires operating heavy equipment and conducting contract inspections, with progression to more complex duties at Tech III and IV levels.

Responsibilities include maintaining records, inspecting contractors, and assisting with emergency responses.

Qualifications

  • Experience in transportation engineering support or roadway maintenance.
  • Commercial Class A Driver's License with N endorsement required within 120 days of employment.
  • Substitutions for minimum qualifications through formal training or education are allowed on a year-for-year basis.
  • Pre-employment physical and drug testing are required; safety and regulatory compliance are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain construction project records and bridge inspection records; process related paperwork.
  • Inspect maintenance contract construction methods to ensure compliance with plans and specs.
  • Operate heavy equipment (front-end loader, dump truck, etc.) and light equipment as needed.
  • Assist local law enforcement at accident sites and assist stranded motorists as required.
  • Lead maintenance inspection activities for complex projects at higher level (Tech IV).
