Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation in Georgetown County seeks an experienced engineer to plan, coordinate, and schedule maintenance on the State Highway System. You will evaluate requests, manage records, and supervise unit personnel, including hiring and disciplinary actions.

You will conduct daytime and nighttime inspections of roads and bridges, assess conditions, and assist with emergency operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management.
• Five (5) years of engineering or construction management work experience or approved equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and schedule maintenance activities for the State Highway System in Georgetown County.
• Investigate requests from the public, officials, and agency personnel and respond as needed.
• Conduct day and night inspections of roads and bridges; record conditions (pavement, shoulders, markings, signs, vegetation, drainage).
• Manage unit personnel actions (hiring, promotions, demotions, reclassifications, training, counseling, discipline).
• Assist with emergency and inclement weather operations and possible extended hours.
